Mt.Waumbek & Mt.Cabot 9/5/07 to 9/7/07

This was a 3 day hike. We parked our car at the trail head for Mt. Starr King in Jefferson, New Hampshire.
Our goal was Mt.Waumbek, Mt.Cabot, the Bulge, & the Horn. We would take the Kilkenny Ridge Trail from Starr King Trail. The Kilkenny Ridge Trail is lightly used and can be a little tricky to follow in the lush vegetation.

Lilbirdie points the way.

Just a wonderful bird given a bad reputation

Climbing toward the summit.
A little too warm & hazy.

Eating cheese curls out of Gray Jay's hand isn't exactly healthy,
but I have no trail mix.

Lilbirdie hiking over The Weeks,
and believe me most of the trail to Lost Pond Trail
is just like this. Add in the roots and ups and downs.

Camping for the night on North Weeks.
Lilbirdie dresses for a chilly night.

Rising real early on North Weeks to get hiking

Lilbirdie and I took a side trip down the closed Mt.Cabot Trail
for some much needed water. Water is scarce .

Climbing up Mt.Cabot on Kilkenny Ridge Trail

Cabot Cabin comes into view.
This is not on the summit but just below it.

Gray Jay eats a snack inside Cabot Cabin

Lilbirdie eats too

Gray Jay readys to leave Cabot Cabin for the summit,
the Bulge,& the Horn. Leaving our packs at
the cabin because we will be back to spend the night.

Kilkenny Ridge Trail continues up behind the cabin.

Lilbirdie stands where the fire tower used to be.

That's a lie.

Lilbirdie prepares for a night at Cabot Cabin

Gray Jay 56 rests at this luxury spot on the mountain

Lilbirdie enjoys too.

Gray Jay 56 hangs the bear bags high by front of cabin.
It's getting pretty windy.

Lilbirdie gets ready for the night and glad to be inside.
The wind was strong all night long.

Morning. Gray Jay 56 leaving cabin.
We will try and make the 18 mile hike
back to the car today.
